Harvest 2025: great acidity and exceptional balance

The 2025 harvest at Finca Montrubí will be remembered for its balance and the excellent sanitary state of the grapes. A slow and steady ripening allowed us to pick each variety at its optimal moment, when sugars and acidity reached their best expression.

Unlike other areas of Penedès, where the heatwave forced an early harvest of varieties such as macabeo or xarel·lo, the privileged location of the Estate -between 500 and 550 meters above sea level and in a valley protected by mountain ranges- has favored remarkable balance. Despite the abundant rains of recent days, which supposed a logistical challenge, the overall outcome is very positive: healthy grapes, vineyards free of water stress, and optimal alcohol levels and acidity.

The first grapes, sumoll

The first varieties to enter the winery were sumoll, used to craft the Ancestrals range and the still rosé One Night’s Rosé. We have also harvested xarel·lo and macabeo, and begun bringing in the first parellada. This was followed by grenache from some of the estate’s oldest bush-trained vines, and we will continue with white sumoll, a variety we do not vinify for now. However, this year we will vinify -and will announce soon- a new Blanc de Noirs.

Sumoll is proving to be one of the surprises of the season: “This year it is particularly striking for its acidity and aromatic profile. We are very pleased with what it will contribute to our 2025 vintage wines,” says Montrubí’s winemaker Jordi Echáiz. He also highlights the “fantastic quality” of both the whites and reds that will be born from this year’s harvest.

We still have a couple of weeks of harvesting ahead, and if everything continues at its natural pace, we will pick the last grapes in early October, destined for the production of our iconic sweet wines.
