Wine of Septembre: White Ancestral
Sparkling wines have been revolutionized by the rise of wines made using the ancestral method, also known as Pét-Nat. This technique, which begins fermentation in tank and finishes it in the bottle, results in fresh, vibrant, and surprising wines. Such is L’Ancestral Blanc from Montrubí, a sparkling white crafted as a single-varietal Parellada.
This organic and vegan wine comes from vineyards planted in 1975 on clay-limestone soils. We hand-pick the grapes, carry out direct pressing, and the must initially ferments in concrete tanks with native yeasts before finishing inside the bottle. No sugars, no filters. The result is a genuine, characterful wine with minimal intervention.
Citrusy with subtle white fruit notes and great freshness on the palate
Organoleptically, L’Ancestral Blanc shows an intense, bright yellow color. On the nose, it reveals citrus aromas, green apple, white flowers, and subtle hints of honey, chamomile, and white fruit. On the palate, it is creamy, with fine, well-integrated bubbles and a fresh, persistent finish. Its freshness makes it highly versatile for pairing. It can be enjoyed with rice dishes, fish, or Mexican and Asian cuisine.
With only 11% alcohol and an optimal serving temperature between 8 and 10 °C, this 2021 vintage sparkling wine was awarded 90 points by James Suckling, confirming its quality and uniqueness.
Available in 75 cl format, it can be purchased for €17.95 here.
